Henry E. Plumb, in the 1880's, spent a considerable amount of money hoping to attract the summer boarder by developing an amusement and picnic area on his property on Boy's Halfway River in the East Village--Stevenson area. He exposed some huge limestone caverns with rooms 40-50 feet high. Wildwood as this retreat was called became the local attraction and was later known as Devil's Den.

A regular summer colony developed in the Stevenson area after the coming of the second railroad line through Monroe, and continued through the first quarter of the 20th Century....

Little more is known except the area was known for private clubs/parks/resorts. Many would reach the area via the Housatonic Railroad. Include this entry? I do not know. It specifically refers to the place as a popular local attraction---amusement area.....
