Idlewild Park, Reno, Nevada
Playland at Idlewild Park
You will find this beautiful green oasis by the Truckee River, just a short distance from downtown Reno. It's a wonderful place to relax and spend the day with the family. The kids can choose from a multitude of rides available to them. They will find the normal fun playground equipment such as swings and slides and other neat stuff. There is a train that circles the park and lake, a merry-go-round, a small roller coaster, tilt-o-whirl, bumper cars and an octopus ride to twist you up. The trees are plentiful and the views spectacular. Picnic tables are available, so be sure to bring a picnic. Admission to the park is free. There is a 50-cent charge for the rides.
Idlewild Park Playland, a mini-amusement park run by the Kiwanis Club, has closed. When the Kiwanis took it over in 2004, the idea was to generate revenue for scholarships, but that didn't happen. The rides have been sold and the city is looking to remove the fence and return the area to grass. The train ride, though, is still there and now operated by the city.
