Jantzen Beach Amusement Park was heralded as Portland's Million Dollar Playground. When Carl Jantzen and his partners at Jantzen Knitting Mills opened Jantzen Beach Amusement Park on May 26, 1928, it was the largest amusement park in the nation.
The park sprawled over 123 acres on Hayden Island where the Jantzen Beach SuperCenter sits today.
Only a few remnants remain at the site, including a collection of photographs of the park, the CW Parker Carousel built in 1921 by CW Parker in Leavenworth, Kansas and an original park bench that now sits outside the carousel enclosure.
