One of the great summertime activities growing up in CNY was going to Suburban Park. Did you know the park was originally established in 1898 by the Syracuse Rapid Transit Railway Co. to increase ridership on their trolley line from Syracuse through DeWitt, Fayetteville and Manlius, ending at the electric power generating plant near the Pompey Center Road? And that dancing was a Suburban Park feature at one time? This was way before my time. I remember Suburban Park right up to its end when it contained quite a few major and kiddie rides, a large dance floor, and an athletic field. Remember the "Laff in the Dark" funhouse, and the Wild Mouse ride? Unfortunately, the fun ended after the summer of 1973, when Suburban Park closed for good.
