Indian Lake Railroad. A Miniature Railroad. Indian Lake, Maine. They do not seem to have a web site. (oops...click above) I leave a li nk but I dislike links -- they always go dead !!!!! I include Miniature Railroads because they were a fixture at Amusement Parks and when the parks died remnants of them popped up on property elsewhere. Often parks but many private individuals and private property. Indian Lake Railroad ? It is a totally private operation as far as I know.

Excerpts from a messageboard around 2010.

Our 3 truck Shay is finally steaming!

This Mogul (2-6-0) was purchased from the B.H.&B. RR (Bar Harbor & Boston) to provide the first operating steam power on the ILRR. Shown running for the first time at it's new home, the locomotive will soon be relettered for the ILRR. This locomotive was built in Canada using Railroad Supply castings.

While we build live steam locomotives, our current motive power is a GE 44 tonner. This electric locomotive has four 1/2 hp permanent magnet motors, one per axle. Two deep-cycle RV batteries provide 24 volts to a homemade electronic motor controller. A radio control unit has been installed for remote operation, works great for the work train hauling ballast. Headlights are GE MR-11 20 watt halogen tracklight bulbs operating at 12 volts (available from Home Depot). They are bright!

Take a slide tour of the railroad:
